Grand Tour of Morocco

Come with us on an unforgettable adventure across Morocco. You’ll visit age-old imperial cities, mount up and join a camel safari through the magnificent Sahara and have time to relax on the Atlantic coast.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Casablanca, transfer to your hotel in Rabat.
Day 2: After a city tour of Rabat you transfer to Meknes.
Day 3: From Meknes you’ll head to the striking medieval city of Fes. En route you’ll visit the ruins of Volubilis, a once-great Roman city.
Day 4: Fes itself is a city that never fails to impress; strolling through the narrow and winding lanes of the old medina with its markets and tanneries, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
Day 5-6: On day 5 you’ll travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains where the cedar forests are home to native Barbary apes. You’ll follow the Ziz Gorge, a winding river valley with stunning rock formations, before reaching Erg Chebbi. Erg Chebbi is an imposing expanse of huge sand-dunes on the edge of the Sahara and this is where you join a camel caravan. Trek by camel out into the dunes for an overnight camp in traditional nomad tents where you spend two nights.
Day 7-8: Day 7 will take you via Morocco’s deepest canyon, the Todra Gorge, to the magnificent Dades Gorge where the delightful scenery features palms, limestone castles and almost-Biblical shepherds guarding their flocks. This is a wonderful location for walking tours, not least because the locals are extremely friendly and always willing to chat. You spend two nights here.
Day 9: You follow the Kasbah route to one of the most famous Kasbah villages, Ait Ben Haddou. This World Heritage site, with its maze-like alleyways and unexpected cul de sacs, has provided sets for epic films such as ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘Gladiator’.
Day 10: You travel through splendid volcanic scenery to Taroudant, a charming walled city with what will seem like an anachronous medieval-like street-life. The following day you explore Taroudant’s small alleys, buy some unusual ethnic souvenirs, and visit a tea-house.
Day 11-12: On day 11 you’ll drive through the lush green Argana forests towards Essaouira, a friendly coastal town on the Atlantic Ocean. There you can simply relax on a terrace, or if you’re feeling energetic, explore the ancient alleys or go for a long walk on the beach. In the morning you will be able to watch the fishing boats unload their catch of sardines at the port. Then, in the evening, we recommend that you treat yourself to freshly-caught fish where it is served in many of the quaint little harbour restaurants. You spend two nights here.
Day 13-14: On day 13 you head to Marrakech, where you’ll spend two nights. The city’s dazzling centre, the Djemaa el Fna square, is an enthralling and exotic Eastern experience populated by snake-charmers, acrobats and storytellers. You’ll be able to have a meal at one of the small food stalls that appear only at night to serve up delicious kebabs, seafood, soup and salads. You’ll explore the medieval medina and markets heaving with a colourful mixture of bright carpets, piled fruit and dyed skeins of wool. Behind small gates you will discover handsomely-wrought sultan’s tombs, ancient palaces and Koranic schools. The numerous terraces are great for people-watching and, in the evening, a refreshing visit to a steamy Hammam (a Turkish bath) is recommended.
Day 15: Depart from Marrakech
